Masjid Zahir: A Majestic Symbol of Islamic Heritage in Kedah

Masjid Zahir is one of the most stunning and historic mosques in Malaysia. Located in the heart of Alor Setar, Kedah, this grand mosque is not only a place of worship but also an architectural masterpiece that reflects the beauty of Islamic design.

Built in 1912, Masjid Zahir is one of the oldest mosques in Malaysia. It was officially inaugurated by Sultan Abdul Hamid Halim Shah, the 26th Sultan of Kedah. The mosque was constructed in memory of fallen Kedah warriors who fought in the Siamese invasion of Kedah in the 19th century.

Masjid Zahir’s design is inspired by Moorish architecture, featuring five large domes that symbolize the five pillars of Islam. Its elegant black dome contrasts beautifully with the mosque’s white walls, creating a striking and majestic appearance. The mosque is surrounded by beautifully landscaped gardens, adding to its serene and peaceful ambiance.
